Ground IP / Resistivity

Applications in Mineral Exploration

  • Identifies gold-bearing veins with sulphides.
  • Maps disseminated sulphides and stringers surrounding VMS.
  • Discriminates between barren and mineralized EM conductors.
  • Identifies sphalerite, discontinuous banded mineralization, non-conductive sulphides.
  • Maps alteration zone and structural features controlling mineral deposition (porphyry cooper system).
  • Maps clay minerals and/or magnetic associated with kimberlitic rocks.
  • Resistivity mapping for alteration, basin depth.
  • Select the best electrode array for reconnaissance, depth penetration or detail target mapping.

Equipment and Software

Transmitter Tx-III from GDD Instruments (up to 7.8 kW)
Receiver Elrec-Pro from IRIS Instruments (10 input channels and 20 decay curve sampling windows)
In-field QC Processing and plotting are performed using our proprietary Refusilo® software.
Analysis Image2D®, Image3D®, Res2Dinv, Res3Dinv, DC IP 3D

Configuration and Survey Parameters

Ground Ipower3D® Dipole-dipole, pole-dipole, pole-pole, gradient Spectral IP (optional)

3D surface configurations for increased depth penetration X X
Time-domain for best-in-the-field quality control X X
Electrode spacing and configuration selected by numerical modelling to ensure the success of the IP program X X
Identification of resistive, conductive and polarizable features X X
Differentiate source of anomaly –sulphides/oxides/clay minerals     X
Discriminate between mineralization and cultural features - railroads, pipelines, power lines, fences, etc.     X

Limitations: Investigation depth may exceed 400 metres for large porphyry systems (since the response is volume dependant) but may be restricted to ~ 50 metres for thin non-conductive, sheet-like structures (veins). Investigation depth is a function of target body size (larger bodies can be found at greater depths).
