Physical properties borehole survey used to map silicate zone and ore zone

The McConnel nickel deposit is located in Sudbury.

Ground and airborne surveys are important in determining the location of a deposit. Borehole surveys give information in the third dimension.

Five boreholes that intersect the deposit provide a facility for testing the response of borehole geophysical tools.

Results demonstrate that more than two geophysical parameters are required to make subdivisions of silicate rocks units.

The geophysical contacts compare favourably with the lithological contacts. Results demonstrate also that ore zones can be sharply defined.
